Easy Quantity Calculators

Factors:

This converts inches of coverage to feet of coverage

                                                              1'' = .08 ft                                   5'' = .42 ft

                                                              2'' = .16 ft                                   6'' = .50 ft

                                                              3'' = .25 ft                                   7'' = .58 ft

                                                              4'' = .33 ft                                   8'' = .67 ft

Estimating mulch, stone, or loam in cubic yards for square or rectangles

Step 1   WIDTH (x) LENGTH (in feet). Multiplied by Thickness (factor) = Cubic Feet

Step 2    DIVIDE Cubic Feet by 27 = CUBIC YARDS of material needed.

Example: How much loam needed to cover an area 25' wide by 50' long, 3'' thick, so 25x50=312.5 cubic feet divide by 27 = 11.57 yards.

Estimating mulch, stone, or loam in cubic yards for circles

Step 1   Divide the diameter of the circle by 2

Step 2   Multiply the radius found in Step 1     (radius) x (radius) x 3.15 x (Factor) = CUBIC FEET

Step 3   DIVIDE Cubic feet by 27 = CUBIC YARDS of material needed.

Example: How much loam needed to cover an old pool area, 20 feet in diameter (round), 3'' thick.

20 feet divided by 2 = 10 foot radius

10 x 10 x 3.15 x .25 = 78.75 cubic feet

78.75 cubic feet divided by 27 = 2.92 yards

Weight of materials

1 Cubic yard of:

Stone, sand, stone dust, or dry loam weights approximately 3,000 lbs

Wet loam weighs approximately 3,400 lbs

Bark mulch weighs approximately 850 lbs
